Welcome to the fourth edition of the TAO Times, where we share weekly updates on all of the most important events occurring within the Bittensor ecosystem!

For validators, subnet owners, miners, token holders, & community members.

Here is what happened during the week of September 8th β†˜οΈ

Ecosystem

πŸ“ We released a Bittensor Resource Portal that aggregates all of the user facing products built by Subnet teams, the various ecosystem tools, research, media, and more. Check it out here!

πŸ“ The v7.4.0 update and mainnet upgrade was completed this week. This update enables Ledger support, child hotkeys, and adjusts the emissions schedule to reduce chain bloat.

πŸ“ The OpenTensor Foundation has increased the Subnet limit from 45 to 52.

πŸ“ Emissions distribution has been changed and set to occur once every 24 hours (7200 blocks), however, keys will continue to accumulate emissions at every tempo as usual. This change may lead to perceived delays in payouts, especially for smaller miners.

πŸ“ TaoXnet launched its block explorer. You can check it out here.

πŸ“ The OpenTensor Foundation launched a new YouTube video series that highlights the different subnets within the ecosystem. Their first video features SN16, which you can checkout here!

πŸ“ Episode 3 of TAO Talks by blocmates is LIVE. We had Mike from Contango & General TAO Ventures on the show to discuss this week’s highlights. The guys talked about the expansion in Subnets, easy ways to interact with Subnets, strategic partnerships, Dippy AI’s impressive stats, and much more.

Subnets

Highlights

SN4 (Targon): Will release Targon v3.0.0 on Sept. 16, 2024, which introduces a new verification mechanism replacing Jaro and ensures 100% OpenAI compliance for miners. The update includes API functionality for Completions and Chat in Targon Hub, with future plans for monitoring and supporting multiple models.

SN6 (Infinite Games): Introduced repricing events, a mechanism to detect significant changes in prediction market odds within a specified future timeframe. They have also introduced two additional features: an endpoint providing complete ACLED event resolution history for model backtesting and outcome comparison and an analytics dashboard showcasing subnet metrics and individual event scoring for miners.

SN9 (Pre-Training): Announced the release of v4.4.0, which ends the 7B* model competition and transfers its reward to the 14B competition. The update includes a specific sunset block (3849722, Sept. 17 around 11:30PM CET) for the 7B competition and increases the 14B competition's total reward to 0.57.

SN15 (De-Val): Released an update that expands LLM support for task generation, incorporates new models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, and Cohere, while allowing validators to choose and control which models to use through configuration settings.

SN17 (Three Gen): 404-GEN bot is now live through a Blender extension and a Discord bot. The teams also released an update, improving validator code to reduce submit time by 50%, decrease network pressure, and increase future bandwidth capacity.

SN19 (19.ai): Released 5.0, which introduces Cursor support for easy integration with the subnet’s text models. This update also simplifies the addition of new models, allowing users to stay on top of the latest trends in model development.

SN23 (SocialTensor): Introduced SuperEnsemble, which categorizes model specialization, encouraging miners to develop expertise in specific niches like General and Digital Art, with plans for expansion. This mechanism will create a diverse, scalable ecosystem of specialized AI models, improving overall performance through intelligent prompt classification and targeted responses.

SN30 (Bettensor): NFL betting is now live.

SN32 (It’s AI): Has achieved state-of-the-art performance on three major benchmarks for AI-generated text detection: RAID, CUDRT, and GRiD. The system outperformed both commercial and open-source solutions, demonstrating superior accuracy and robustness across diverse datasets and out-of-domain validations.

SN38 (DistributedTraining): Launched its Distributed Training subnet, aiming to create a mechanism for training a single LLM across multiple nodes. It incentivizes miners to provide compute, bandwidth, and low latency, with frequent updates expected due to the complexity of distributed training across heterogeneous nodes.

SN39 (EdgeMaxxing): Their latest update transitions from simple HuggingFace pipelines to full pipeline control, allowing miners more flexibility in model optimizations. The update aims to significantly boost subnet performance and encourage creative submissions.

SN40 (Chunking): Released a dashboard showcasing the first benchmark of the subnet compared the top miner's chunking performance against AI21 and Unstructured in a RAG pipeline using fiction text. Results show the subnet outperforming competitors across various "Top K" values. This dashboard visualizes the benchmark data and allowing comparisons between different chunking methods.

SN41 (SportsTensor): The NFL Dashboard is now live, showcasing miner prediction accuracies with a 100-game threshold, and they released a beta version of their app.
