Welcome to the 17th edition of the TAO Times, where we share weekly updates on all of the most important events occurring within the Bittensor ecosystem!
For validators, subnet owners, miners, token holders, & community members.
Here is what happened during the week of December 8th ↘️
TAO Stats
Highlights of the Week
🔥 The 2024 NeurIPS Conference, one of AI's most prestigious gatherings with over 12,000 attendees, convened in Vancouver featuring prominent figures including Ilya Sutskever. A notable highlight was Const's influential presentation on Bittensor's value proposition to a highly engaged technical audience. The multi-track event also included a sessions with speakers from Crucible Labs, Macrocosmos, Manifold Labs, and Yuma Group, concluding with a networking event hosted by Akash. Bittensor’s presence is growing in the Web2 and academic research scene, further legitimizing the protocol in the eyes of prominent technologists.

🔥 Joseph Jacks announced his new Bittensor company, Latent Holdings, planning to operate a validator and contribute to the launch of new subnets. The company, starting with a $3 million initial investment from OSS Capital, is led by former Bittensor core developer Cameron Fairchild as co-founder/CTO and Clément Blaise, previously of Credit Agricole and Consensys, as Head of Infrastructure. It is no surprise that JJ is getting closer to the action. We are excited to see what he cooks up at the new co!
🔥 Wombo unveiled Tao360, an AI-powered analysis tool that leverages multiple AI models (Gemini 1.5 Pro, GPT-4, Claude 3.5, LLama3) to evaluate Bittensor subnets by analyzing over 4,700 reports across GitHub activity, Discord conversations, social media, and emissions data. This inaugural research report introduces their methodology for helping validators and delegators make informed decisions about subnet weights based on comprehensive AI-driven analysis. I am excited to begin using this to streamline my own Bittensor research, especially with how many subnets there will be in the near future.
🔥 Masa launched SN59, Agent Arena, incentivizing and ranking AI agents based on their social performance metrics like mindshare, impressions, and community engagement. The subnet includes bonus incentives for integrating with SN42's data scraping capabilities and building token communities. The Subnet aims to formalize the existing competition between AI agents while encouraging integration with Bittensor's broader subnet ecosystem. We just talked to Calanthia, Masa co-founder, this week for TAO Talk, so stay tuned for that episode…
🔥 The OTF announced the deployment of Commit Reveal V3 to mainnet soon. Commit Reveal is an encryption mechanism which will prevent validators from copying other validators' weights by hiding consensus data until it becomes obsolete for copying purposes. The deployment of Commit Reveal V3 represents a pivotal milestone for Bittensor by addressing the weight copying vulnerability.
